The Governor's Plan to Take Away
YOUR Right to Choose YOUR School
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
As the Authorizer representative to your school I want to thank you for exercising your right to choose community school education for your children. I too have exercised my right to choose educational options for my own children. Today I must call your attention to a critical issue that threatens to take away those rights. In the current Budget Bill, Governor Strickland has proposed a dramatic increase of $925 million (an average 4.4% increase) in overall funding for traditional public schools. At the same time, Governor Strickland has proposed slashing a devastating 20% of the funding for community schools.
Your school already receives thousands of dollars less than the schools and these additional reductions will undoubtedly close many community schools, potentially forcing the return of over 80,000 students back to failing urban district schools.
Unfortunately, politics is the reason for these proposed cuts. Ignoring President Obama's call for increased support for community schools, Governor Strickland and Ohio's powerful teacher unions want to slash funding to your school and send your children back to the failing district schools that you left.
It is up to you to save your school. It is up to you to make your voice heard.
To make your voice heard you must immediately contact your legislators and tell them why you chose this school and tell them not to slash funding to community schools. I have asked your school to provide you with a list of those legislators and their contact information.
